"Celebrating Wilderness through Art" will provide a special opportunity to join two local artists to learn fun and easy nature writing and drawing exercises that will help preserve your own nature and wilderness experiences. The seminar will feature the Wilderness resources found in Shenandoah National Park. \n\n \n\nThe "Celebrating Wilderness through Art" seminar is free with your paid park entrance fee\, however\, space is limited to 25 participants\, ages 12 and up. Pre-registration is required. Art supplies and writing materials will be provided and no previous art or nature writing experience is necessary. Some hiking will be involved. To register for the seminar or for more information\, contact the park's Education Office by e-mail: shen_education@nps.gov or phone: 540-999-3500\, ext. 3489.\n\n \n\nFifty years ago\, wilderness areas were formally designated and protected by federal law through the Wilderness Act\, legislation that provides the highest level of protection for some of our most iconic\, wild landscapes. Today\, more than 109 million acres of wilderness are part of the National Wilderness Preservation System.  Shenandoah National Park has nearly 80\,000 acres of designated wilderness\, one of the largest Wilderness areas in the eastern United States\, and is only 90 miles from Washington\, DC! Whether you are looking to relax or exercise\, disconnect or reconnect\, wilderness provides a stunning setting for adventure\, personal challenge\, or solitude.
