You are invited to attend a free lecture on Tuesday, May 2 at 6:30 at the Luray Library as part of the Blue Ridge Heritage Project of Page. Our guest speaker for the evening will be Shenandoah National Park Ranger, Claire Comer. Her lecture is entitled, "Common Ground" and is about the complicated story of the establishment of Shenandoah National Park and the impact on the families and landowners involved. The photo below (credited to Larry Bleiberg) is excerpted from his July 2016 article in BBC Travel, "The Land that Refused Obliteration".
A Page County native, Claire's great-grandfather lost his summer grazing land at the top of the Blue Ridge in the 1930's in the establishment of the Park. We are all looking forward to hearing about her research and efforts that contributed to the current multi-media display at the H.F. Byrd Visitor Center, introducing visitors to the true story of the sacrifices of many local families.
This lecture is being held at the Luray Library to give everyone a chance to see the incredible display that Stacy Montgomery, a member of the BRHP of Page Research Committee, created to help tell the story of the mountain families.
Please come, bring a friend, and bring photos and stories to share with our BRHP of Page Research Committee so that they can be included in our database for this project. We hope to see you there!
